Two days after the tsunami hit, wreckage littered the length of Tewewong Road just off Patong beach in Phuket, Thailand. Today the street is still clogged, but this time with traffic. Image Source: BBC

 

Another mosque near Banda Aceh also withstood the power of the wave. If you look carefully in the second photograph you can see that the erath has slowly recovered, but the homes are still of a temporary nature.

The resort of Koh Raya in the Andaman Islands was severely damaged. The picture on the left shows the wave approaching before it destroyed the building on the right. Today the resort has been re-built. Tourism is an important contributor to the economy. Image Source: BBC
